A Home Improvement WebQuest
Developed for Mrs. Reinhold's Dover Middle School Math Lab Classes (Based on a WebQuest by Tonya Massey at http://www.geocities.com/mdt_32177/)
Introduction
I have recently converted my garage into 2 bedrooms and a
"Chillin' Room" for my teenagers where they will watch television,
play PlayStation, and listen
to music. I am looking for an interior decorator to help me find
the best paint, wallpaper, carpet, tile, and furniture. Your name has been
given to me as a prospective decorator. As my interior decorator, I need
you to choose colors, designs, styles, & products that will be most
appropriate for teenagers. I will need a list of your decisions along with a
detailed price list that fits within a $5,000 budget. Please hurry as my
teens are eagerly waiting to move in!!! Tasks
1.
Data

***Remember, when doing these
calculations you will need to take into consideration any doors, windows, and
conversions from feet to yards when needed. 4.
Complete a proposal
of your suggestions using word processing or PowerPoint. A price list
must be included showing unit prices, quantity needed, and total prices to fit
within the $5,000 budget. The finished proposals will be judged and the winning
design used to decorate the rooms. Resources
Conclusion
After successfully
completing this WebQuest, you will have applied your understanding of area &
perimeter to a real-life situation. Not only have you used your mastery of
linear & square measurement, but you have also calculated prices and
converted measurements. As a final step for this WebQuest, you need to
respond to the following two items. 1)
What are some of the things you liked about this project, and what are some of
the things you disliked? 2) If you could go
back and re-do this WebQuest, what would you do differently to make your
proposal better?
