Extra-Curricular Activities

Dover Middle School offers a wide range of athletic and non-athletic extra-curricular activities. All students are encouraged and invited to participate in one or more of these activities throughout the year.

Track & Field Mr. Leister Students compete against athletes from other middle schools in hurdles, long and short distance running, long jumping, discus throwing, and other events March - June
Baseball Mr. Thomas Students compete against other middle schools in Morris County. March - June
       
Chess Club   Students train & compete within our school Oct - June
Geography Bee   Students compete within our school and the winner could go on to local, state, and national competitions Dec - Jan
Debate/Forensics Club Mr. Sabol Students train for various public speaking opportunities and compete against other schools Oct - June
Jr. National Honor Society Mr. Hill Students are inducted into this organization based on academic achievement, citizenship, leadership, service, and character Sept – June (new member induction in May
ROGATE Mrs. Nagle Based on academic standing, a select group of students are invited to participate in this gifted and talented program Oct – June
Homework Center  

 

Community and teacher volunteers meet with students to help them with their homework Oct - June

Literary Club   Artists, poets, short story writers, typists, and lay-out organizers work together to create the school annual "Perceptions" literary magazine Jan - June
Drama Club

 

 

An on-stage and behind-the-scenes cast of students produce and present a play to the student body as well as the community March - June
Yearbook Club Mr. Mains Students plan, organize, and market the school yearbook Oct - June
Morning Announcements Mrs. Nagle This group works on making and producing the daily, live TV, morning announcements. Sept. - June
Jazz Band Mr. Wiseman Band students can "jazz it up" a little by trying out for this special ensemble Oct - June
Teen Arts Festival Ms. Sperry

 

Morris County teenagers prepare performances in art, dance, writing, acting, vocal and instrumental music, and photography. Performers attend a day of professional workshops at County College of Morris, where their work is critiqued and refined. Feb - June
       
Student Leadership Council Mrs. Dally

Steered by an executive board, elected by the student body, this group serves as the student government for our school and hosts Fun Days and other activities Sept - June
Builder’s Club Mrs. Marinello This organization plans and carries out community service projects Oct - June
Municipal Alliance Dances  

 

Students work with community representatives to plan and run dances and activities for teenagers living in Dover.  
(Note: This is not a Dover Middle School sponsored activity.)
Sept - June
Stokes Trip Mr. Ostroski 7th graders learn lessons about working together to save the environment through participating in hands-on activities during a 3-day, 2-night visit to a state forest Oct - May
Eighth Grade Trips Miss Sperry Trips planned for the entire eighth grade are set up at various times of the year.  Previous trips have been to Philadelphia, NJ PAC, Great Adventure. All year

 

 

*NOTE: Participation in any athletic team requires a physical.  Some activities have specific membership requirements, and in some cases participants may be required to meet certain academic and/or behavioral standards.
